SoundOut Report

Today I recieved my first SoundOut report for my song "Angels + Demons." For those that don't know SoundOut is a service to artists to get honest feedback for your music. It's a great tool to see just how well your song does in different audiences. The report you get is pretty comprehensive; complete with charts, graphs and percentage breakdowns. However, the best part of the report is the listener comments. Think of it like YouTube comments but without the annoying trolls and racism/sexism/homophobia. I found reading these comments very enjoyable and thought that I'd share some of my favorites. These are real and unedited comments.

Synthpop opening which is kind of dubstep in flavour without unleashing itself fully.  The rhythm track is quite good with digital drums  nicely arranged with timpani and the higher pitched synth comes in to good effect after the vocal, lots of layering going on in the song with rich string sounds at the bottom of the mix and a rap atop keeping the song's flavour an urban inspired synth driven song. Well produced with some nice layered arrangement elements.
I love the slow intro to this song. It builds up with a good beat that is bound to make this song worth hearing. I must admit how it sounds like a pump-up song for a sport or a contest. Another way of looking at this song is that it sounds like a gang's anthem. Even the various parts were the singer mentions the streets among other things leads me to conclude this song is about either a build up to a game or a gang related anthem. Either way one hears this song, it has a good lyrics which anyone can relate to when they hear it. I also love how it sounds like an old song from decades past. This truly adds to the overall uniqueness of this song.
Great hip hop song with a powerful and incredible bass mixed with the incredible singer's voice and lyric supporting this espectacular song that could be one of the best songs i've ever heard in the hip hop genre
i enjoy the beat oif this track but i don't really hear any talent. Anyone can make this type of track all i hear is talking. It is horribe. I dont think this type of music would ever sell. Keep your day job. horrible
Robotic start, could say it's pretty awesome. The bass notes make it even better. The male voice appears and it make you shiver! such a manly song, my favorite. He sounds like a pro, even though he could work on his voice to get higher. This kind of music requist a high voice, he's all quiet and it's not good in this situation. He sings about everyone and it's a good thing, the words are full of meaning. Nice, even though he could get better.
I didn't really enjoy this song as it was to me very plain and boring. I didn't find myself enjoying the music and probably wouldn't recommend to a friend or family member as it wasn't very entertaining. The music vocals seemed as though they were just speaking rather than singing. I must admit that I liked the music in the background.
Painful to listen to. Horrible start, nasty tempo, not something I would want to listen again. Very try hard, bad harmonies, the worst lyrics i've heard in a while. Needs better melody and maybe some sort of tune. There is no drop, no excitement. Wouldn't listen to this again. Ever again.
Bass tone is wicked, sounds strange and fresh. Drums are solid and fit well. Vocal is clean and can all be heard. Lyrics make sence and seem cleverly written, memorable deffinatly at points. Nice groove to the whole thing. I love the production, some of the synths sound amazing, never heard anything like this before. Im not useally a fan of this music, but this i love.
The opening creates an air of mystery and a picture of an old-school club. the vocals are suspenseful and maintaisn a firm style. The lyrics get off to a good start, with their slick rhyming and timing. This timing is not kept together as well as the track progresses, but this actually gives it an edgy appeal. The melody has great movement and a feeling of adventure, which easily causes toetapping. The harmonies are very dramatic and mixable, improving the exciting aspect of the song. The beat is heavy, and is not too complex, so it allows the vocals to be more noteworthy. The instrumentals used are supeerbly influencial, with the keyboard and 'drumming' applying ideas from other genres and giving the song two joinable strands, one which is meandering and intense while the other is chilled and static. The structure has a neccessary continuity to it, and the chorus and verses are not introduced suddenly or randomly. This really helps to maintain the track's evident flow. The musical arrangement is entertaining, and there is a good amount of variation, especially in the use of the high-pitched keyboard parts. The volume is mostly sufficient, except that towards the end there were many different sounds emersing in parallel, and this made the song cluttered for a moment. The minor improvements I can suggest are to work on positioning the lyrics better and perhaps making the performance more tight, by bringing the soudns together more. The feeling that I receive from this track is one of sophistication and contemporary music. There is fairly terrific hit potential, for it is fresh and current.
And my favorite ...

sounds like it is trying to be intimidating like its big hitting rivals, however, just seems a bit 80's/90's rap style which being a 21st century kid is the equivalent of watching your dad dance

"Small Price To Pay" Unfinished demo

This is one of the demos that I lost in my last hard drive failure. The loss of this song really hurt the most because I was pretty excited about it and I believed it held a lot of potential. Instead of letting it go unheard I decided to put it out in its rawest form - an unmixed, unmastered, unedited demo. I hope that when you hear it you can hear what I heard.

Thank you.

I can't say how shocked I am at the amount of support I've gotten from people since I started this little project of mine. It started off with a Yamaha keyboard and a tattered notebook and has evolved into much more than I imagined it would be; and I'm really not anywhere close to my ultimate goal. I'm working on new music right now and I hope that you all (read: 7 people) continue to check for it once it arrives. I can't thank you enough for all you've done so far.

And if you really believe in it, and you believe in me, tell a friend. Let's get as many people as we can aboard this ship before it takes off. Don't Get Left Behind!

5 Physical Details That Reveal Highly Personal Information

"If you could know ahead of time whether or not your potential husband was a one-man stud farm or loaded up with a bunch of jizz duds, would you want to know? What if we told you the way to find out involved measuring a little patch of male anatomy best left to the crotch of his drawers?"

Update, Spotify, etc.

Hello!

What an awesome week it's been! Last Tuesday I put out my mixtape Typical Hollywood Party and later that week it was put up on Ocean Pedestrians and Summer Mix Series, gathered over 100 downloads, and gotten me a few more followers on Facebook and Twitter. I know 100 downloads doesn't seem like a lot (and in todays world, it may not be) but I don't think it's too shabby and I'm pretty happy with the response it's gotten. So thank you all for checking it out!

Also I just recently signed up for Spotify. If you don't know what that is imagine your favorite online music store where you've already bought every song. Well not every song but they have a pretty great library of stuff you can stream in high quality. Currently Spotify is available in the US by invite only. But if you have an account you can click the button below to add me.

Finally, States of Matter is 85% finished. I really can't wait for everyone to hear it. I really think I'm going to impress some all of you.

See you guys (read: the loyal 7 readers) later!
